Officer injured at Punt Road unit

A police officer has been slashed to the head with a knife after attending a domestic violence incident in Sydney’s northwest.

The incident occurred about 11.20am and a police operation is now under way at a unit in Gladesville, on Punt Road.

Police negotiators are at the scene and the injured officer has been taken to hospital.

A police spokesperson said the injured officer was responding to a domestic violence incident nearby.

Traffic diversions are in place on Punt Road with motorists urged to avoid the area.

There is a heavy police presence on the scene, which is opposite Gladesville police station, including a helicopter flying overhead.
